Zuma Beach in Malibu

As one of the largest and most popular beaches in the Los Angeles region, Zuma Beach in Malibu draws in beachgoers for the length and width of its sands and its ideal surfing conditions. It also happens to be one of the cleanest beaches around Los Angeles as well, making it one of the most beautiful, pristine beaches that you can see during your time in Malibu.

More Information on This Malibu Attraction

Zuma Beach is definitely a safe beach to visit, as there are fourteen lifeguard towers situated throughout. Rip currents tend to appear as a result of the great surf, however, particularly between Towers 8 and 9, so be extremely cautious when swimming. Visitors are not encouraged to swim in the area between these towers, nor are they encouraged to swim at nearby Westward Beach to the southeast of Zuma Beach unless they are extremely strong swimmers, as the waves at Westward Beach are even stronger than those at Zuma Beach in Malibu.

Zuma Beach is home to a number of surfing and kitesurfing events throughout the year, as the beach often reaches prime wind conditions during the late afternoon hours on a daily basis. You can also swim during the daylight hours, windsurf, fish, bodyboard, bodysurf, and play volleyball on the provided courts. There are also food stands available on a seasonal basis, as well as restrooms and outdoor showers for cleaning up after your time in the ocean.

Other events held on Zuma Beach include athletic events such as the Malibu Nautica Triathlon, which benefits the Children’s Hospital of L.A. and draws a range of celebrities, including Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Lopez, and David Duchovny

Zuma Beach has also served as a filming location for multiple movie and television productions. The original 1968 Planet of the Apes was filmed here, as were episodes of America’s Next Top Model, Baywatch, and I Dream of Jeannie.

Check out iconic locations like Pointe Dume, an enormous bluff that comprises the northern end of Santa Monica Bay and provides challenging yet invigorating rock climbing. Point Mugu and Malibu Creek State Park are also worth seeing.
