Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles

History is a wonderful thing, and learning about the past is one of our favorite pastimes, but it’s also important to move forward and look to the future. If we simply studied the past and did nothing to improve the future, it probably wouldn’t be long before we died out like the saber-toothed cats and early camels did at the La Brea Tar Pits! Fortunately, Californians are excited about the future, and as much as we love the buildings of our past, the new buildings we construct today are as fascinating and beautiful as the old, which brings us to the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Located at 111 South Grand Avenue

Built in the Deconstructivism style and designed by architect Frank Gehry, this sleek and shiny building was opened in 2003 to mixed reviews. It’s curved sides and roof were topped with shiny mirrors, creating a traffic problem when the sun reflected off the mirrors. This blooper was quickly addressed, and today, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is one of our greatest accomplishments.

This home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra is rated tops for concert halls and musicians of all styles from all over the world have performed there. Many of the LA Phil performances showcase guest musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Moby, and Andrew Bird; ticket prices start at $20 for a general admission ticket and go up from there, with the celebrity performances costing more. Also featuring innovative dance performances to the classics (Romeo & Juliet performed in dance is an experience that should not be missed!) famous pianists and live music can be seen accompanying the old silent movies in November. Sometimes taking a step back in time can be even more thrilling when the steps you take are in a futuristic concert hall!

Walt Disney Concert Hall symphony performances for youth audiences help introduce the joys of music to the next generation, and as we near the end of the year, Christmas sing-alongs bring the holiday spirit to your California vacation. We don’t need snow and icy weather to feel merry; we just sing the Christmas carols of our youth extra loud!
