Los Angeles hosts an incredible and always growing art scene that continues to fascinate everyone around. This summer is shaping up to be a vast showcase of the many styles and cultures expressed in the city’s artwork. The Pasadena Chalk Festival is fast approaching, taking place this year on June 16th and 17th to show off the incredible designs and art created through chalk. This free event is perfect for all ages to come down and enjoy the incredible designs from many of Los Angeles’s own local artists.
This incredible annual event has been going strong since it’s first unveiling in 1993, where a street painting festival in Paris inspired a local summer intern to showcase the incredible artwork. This first event showcased over 150 artists, with all proceeds going towards community arts and HIV/AIDS resources. The Pasadena Chalk Festival was named the largest street paint festival in 2010 by the Guinness World Records, where a crowd of over 100,000 people saw more than 600 artists. The Light Bringer Project and Paseo Colorado continue to benefit the nonprofit arts organizations and learning programs in schools now produce the Pasadena Chalk Festival. On average, each artist donates 20 hours of their time to make their art pieces possible.
The Pasadena Chalk Festival includes several attractions during its two-day showcase. The Children’s Chalkland is a great environment to let the kids join in on the fun by creating their own masterpieces and receive free face painting from noon to 5:00pm on both days. The Animation Alley showcases exciting animation art from many of Los Angeles’s animators over in the Lower Theatre Court. A silent auction will be taking place with proceeds benefiting the Light Bringer Project. Regardless of what most excites your family, you can find these exciting features during both days of the festival from 10:00am to 7:00pm.
