Any list of fun places to visit during your California vacation would be incomplete without mentioning the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the largest natural history museum in the West! With exhibits numbering in the millions and covering over four billion years of time, this grand museum built in 1913 should be moved to the top of every tourist’s vacation bucket list. Don’t be surprised if you run into one of our happy staff members during your visit; it’s one of our favorite places to spend a lazy afternoon!
Located at 900 W Exposition Boulevard
Tickets are divided into different categories. They can be purchased individually starting at $3 for very young children and maxing out at $15 for adults 18 and over, or in combo packs that start at $15 for kids 3 and older and max out at $26 for adults 18 and over. Combo tickets give you admission to the photography exhibit and the butterfly pavilion as well as the museum.
In addition to special exhibitions, the butterfly and the spider pavilions, permanent exhibits range from African mammals to Zuni fetishes and cover everything natural in between! Enjoy exquisite treasures from ancient Latin America in the Visible Vault or a special exhibition telling the story of our favorite town. Yes, you guessed it, the exhibit is called Becoming Los Angeles, teaching guests everything they never knew they needed to know about LA. The gem and mineral hall features all the sparkly and glittery rocks we women love with all our hearts, the Insect Zoo is full of the creatures we hate, and the Dinosaur Hall will shock, awe, and amaze every member of your family! Containing actual dinosaur skeletons (including baby T-Rex’s!), interactive exhibits where you can dig for fossils, and continuing information about all the mysteries we have yet to uncover about these extinct creatures, the Dinosaur Hall is one of the largest of its kind.
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is an adventure you will never forget. If you do nothing else during your visit to sunny California, you will still feel as if you had a fulfilling and jam-packed vacation!
