Why not take a week off and visit a place where the sun is shining, and salt is something that goes around a margarita glass instead of on the icy steps? Los Angeles winter offers a multitude of things to do and some beautiful weather. An internet search will reveal so many activities that you could never fit it all into one trip, but there are still a few things you shouldn’t miss.

Holiday Fun

We may not have a white Christmas, but we do have some unusual Christmas events. You can go ice skating on a docked cruise ship when the Queen Mary hosts their winter event, Chill. Drive out to Altadena, where you can travel down Christmas Tree Lane, which features a mile of uninterrupted decorated trees. When we do something in LA, we go all out, and gingerbread houses are no exceptions. The chefs at some of Beverly Hills finest hotels make giant gingerbread house, some of which have as much as 50 pounds of icing. If your Jewish and single, your Christmas Eve doesn’t have to be boring; you can put on your fancy pants and attend the Matzo Ball.

Outdoor Activities

It does rain a bit during the Los Angeles winter, but if it doesn’t, winter is a great time to take a walk along the beach. The waters of the Pacific are at their most beautiful in the winter wind. The waves are high and make for a great photo opportunity. You never have to worry about ice here, and the city of Long Beach has some great bike paths to enjoy. Santa Monica pier offers outdoor carnival fun all year long.

Shows

New York City isn’t the only place with great theater. The stars of tomorrow hone their craft at many local theaters. See a play by a new artist at the Stella Adler Theater or enjoy a night of shopping and dining on Melrose followed by a play at the Meta Theater.
