Los Angeles Times Festival of Books
March 5 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
When you think of Los Angeles you may think of movies, glamour, and fun in the sun, but did you know that Los Angeles is also home to many great writers? The LA Times Festival of Books lets you meet some of California’s most popular and imaginative authors. It also gives you the opportunity to get some great buys on both used and new books.
The 2019 festival takes place from April 13th to 14th at the University of Southern California. 150,000 people come to enjoy this free event every year. In addition to book sales and a conversation series, the LA Festival of Books also features bands, food, music and poetry slams. LA is all about networking and the festival gives aspiring authors and small publishing houses the ability to get their work in front of many affluent and influential readers.
LA Times Festival Of Books – Conversations with Authors
The festival offers the opportunity for attendees to meet, listen to and chat with some of their favorite authors. Past talks have featured such authors as one-time United States Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera, actor, and author Ed Asner and the always popular and very prolific author, Joyce Carol Oats. Although festival admission is free, there are some ticketed events that require a processing fee.
Man cannot live by books alone, and while you feed your head, you can also fill your belly. Many of LA’s finest food carts will be at the festival. You can also see cooking demonstrations by chefs who are there to promote their cookbooks and television shows.
As you walk through the festival you will get to bop along to many a local band. Hologram theater is all the rage in the City of Angels and the 2019 festival features a hologram concert by opera star Maria Callas and the LA Opera Orchestra.
The festival is always looking for volunteers who can help with setting up tables, registering authors and supervising author events. If you are a writer, you can arrange to be an exhibitor at the festival. You never know when someone from a film studio may come along looking for the book upon which Hollywood’s next big film will be based.
