LA Pride Festival and Parade
March 5 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
If you are in Los Angeles in the month of June, you can’t miss Pride Week. The week celebrating the LGBTQ community takes place from May 31st to June 9th and features a parade, concerts, and performances. The majority of Pride Week’s festivities take place in West Hollywood, but there are small celebrations all over the city.
The Pride Parade has been going strong for forty years. The gay rights organization, Christopher Street West, sponsors the week and has pride activities all year long. There is a lot to do during Pride Week, and you would never be able to attend everything, however, there are a few events that you won’t want to miss.
One City, One Pride
This art festival celebrates and runs between May 22 and June 1st. The 2019 theme is “Love is Love.” In addition to seeing some great artwork, you can also enjoy talks by local artist and activist. The majority of the activities are free. Highlights of the 2019 festival include a reading of the book, “Harvey Milk, His Lives and Death” by its author Lillian Faderman and a screening of the film, “When Bette Met Mae,” which is about the first time Bette Davis met Mae West.
LGBT Night at Universal Studios
The Pride is Universal event lets you enjoy this popular theme park at night when the place is lit up with all the different colors of the rainbow. The event features a DJ spinning dance tunes and character meet and greets. Ticket holders get an all-day pass to the park as well as an invite to the after hours party.
Los Angeles Pride Festival – The Pride Parade
No one throws a parade quite like Hollywood. The floats and costumes are put together by some of the many entertainment industry professionals in town. The 2019 parade and LA Pride Festival takes place on June 9th and starts at 11:00 am. It begins at Santa Monica Boulevard and runs from Fairfax to Doheny. The LA Pride Festival features marching bands and floats from all the local gay bars and activist organizations. If watching all that marching makes you hungry, there are plenty of food carts along the route. Many local businesses also offer food and drink specials.
