Offering guided tours, an overnight visit called Camp Battleship for children, and a host of other exciting activities and adventures, the USS Iowa Museum is an interesting visit for children from 2 to 92. A phone app allows you and your children to experience life on a battleship as it was for the men who served on the USS Iowa over the years. Launched in 1942, this beauty has served in multiple wars, starting with WWII and ending after the Cold War when it was decommissioned in 1990 (right before the start of Desert Storm).

Ongoing exhibits at the USS Iowa in Los Angeles include an Australian Naval Exhibit, Guardians of Sunda Strait: The WWII loss of HMAS Perth and USS Houston, and a Korean War era helicopter, the Piasecki HUP Retriever. For those who feel we are talking in a foreign language, just ask the military fan in your family; we’re sure he or she will love to explain! If you’re willing to spend a little extra for this tour, $8 more per person will give you the chance to experience a flight simulator. Offering six in-flight simulations that show what its like to be a part of the naval aviation experience, many children who have tried it love the realism so much, they make their life career choices right then and there!
